I’ve been thinking a lot lately about taking my law office paperless to some degree. The main reason is the security of knowing that all my client files are on two computers that are networked as well as daily online backups to the web lest my office burn down.
It seems that every discussion of going paperless between the tech-savvy attorney and the old school crowd ends in the same question: “What happens when you go to court?” You’ll still have to use paper exhibits and give documents to the judge, so what’s the point of going paperless.” Well, good question, and one I posited to a pioneer in the paperless law office arena, Ernest Svenson, author of the Ernie the Attorney website. As usual his insight into the question is spot on. Click the link below for his answer to the question.
