Just because you’ve been handed a ticket or served with a warrant from city court doesn’t mean you’re automatically guilty. Unfortunately many people use the court as a way to “get back” at other people. An angry spouse could easily pick up the phone and tell the police that you have hit him or her, whether it’s true or not! An officer could be mistaken about how fast you were traveling down the street. Either way you need a qualified attorney to fight for the truth and your rights!
A traffic ticket or city court complaint is not only inconvenient, but it can be extremely expensive. A wrong left turn alone could cost you almost $200! Domestic Violence cases in city court could cost up to $3,000! In many city courts the judge only gives you 30 days to pay your court costs and fines! If you can’t pay within 30 days, the judge will often place you in jail to “sit out” your fines! This could cost you a precious weekend with your family or a month or more out of work. Each person is different, but I feel comfortable saying that my family and my livelihood would suffer greatly if I was out of work for a month!
If you have an extra thousand dollars laying around then count yourself blessed, bu if you’re like the rest of the world then you can’t afford to make a large payment to the court at once. The option to make monthly payments to the court is not something the judge will want to do. You’ll need a lawyer fighting for your livelihood to persuade the judge that you’re good for the money, and allow you to make a more manageable monthly payment. This could very well be the key to keeping your afloat financially and out of jail!
